Name: Elena Baryor
Alias: Valkyrie
Race: Human
Class: Gypsy
Alignment: Neutral
Gender: Female
Home: Shangri-La
Physical appearance:
Gypsies have never been known to appear physically imposing and Elena is by far no exception, standing only 51 tall and weighing all of about 105 lbs. When clad in her typical leather garb, the athletic tone of her muscles hints to a strength usually misled by her petite frame.
She has been tattooed twice; a dragon of crimson scale marks her upper right arm and a series of small, archaic symbols of a golden hue mark her left shoulder & upper arm.
Elenas most prominent aspects, at least the features usually first noticeable, are the emerald sparkle of her green eyes and the ruddy highlights of her waist-length, auburn hair.
Mannerism:
Matching the fiery streaks in her hair is the fervor of Elenas disposition. She devotes her entire being to all of her chosen undertakings as well as to the cherished relationships she has formed in her lifes time. This ardent affection has cost her dearly in the past, but she continues this path regardless. For her, there exists no other way to approach life other than with full abandon.
Elena can be very unpredictable, as most complex women can be. Oftentimes, as occasions allow, she prefers a quiet atmosphere where she can relax and seek a kind of solace from the hectic, outside world. On other, more frequent occasions, she tends to be extremely outspoken near to the point of being rude.
One trait that is usually steadfast is her brutal honesty, again taken as being discourteous. While she generally doesnt mean these comments to be offensive, it depends upon to whom she is speaking. There have been a few persons known to garner these ill-mannered truths.
As a born gypsy, Elena enjoys wandering about so much so that she is rarely found frequenting one particular place. She has spent many hours at her Inn located in the lands of Crimson of course, but never are those hours perpetual. Although she does like her time spent roaming, these days Elena mainly keeps herself to only certain places.
Non-magical Abilities:
Perception - When focused, has a keen sense of her surroundings.
Survival - Has the means & knowledge to endure in given circumstances.. in various locations, such as mountains &/or forests.
Acrobatics - Elena is proficient in acrobatics and she uses this flexibility often for both offensive and defensive maneuvers.
Edged weapons training- Swordsmanship; various blades.
Thrown weapons training - Daggers
Magical Abilities:
The only innate ability Elena commands is the gypsy curse. She must have in her possession a personal belonging of the intended mark in order for the malediction to even have a chance of being effective. If successful and unless an appropriate counter is cast, the curse will remain until death or until Elena revokes it. It is possible for another gypsy, one of Elenas bloodline preferably, to also lift the curse.
During her brief stay in the lands of Feldar, Elena developed her roguish nature and several resulting spells which all stem from her hands. These magics lack any real potency and are usually used only as a diversionary tactic.
Spending the majority of her years honing her abilities in mental lore, Elena is adept in her use of telepathy, though a psionicist she is not. Through her practice of divination, she may see portents of the future and visions of distant places. It is also from this practice that she can receive visions from her companion Havok.
Immunities:
Elena is only immune to, or at least can defend against weaker magics that she already employs.
Weaknesses:
She is human and so can succumb to any of the ailments and/or pains that affect her kind, however her lineage as well as her former affiliation with The Deceiver has provided a prolonged lifespan.
Weapons & Items:
Typically, as far as weapons, she carries twin rapiers and a single dagger during any extended traveling. The swords, sheathed at her sides, are unlike most rapiers; the hilts lack their common guards, allowing freer motion and the sharply tapered blades are wider than usual, providing more than a simple thrust attack. The rapiers, when lost or stripped, are enchanted to return to Elenas grasp. The dagger, either tucked in the belt at her back or in her boot, the sole remainder of an original pair given to her by her maternal Grandfather, also holds an enchantment. The weapon itself carries its own curse, a protection of sorts for the Baryor siblings. This affects only one being, otherwise the dagger causes normal damage.
History:
Elena was born to a gypsy woman and a human male, in a gypsy camp amidst a dense forest. The oldest of three, she was the first to exhibit an ability to communicate with others using only her mind. To this day it is unknown to her where this rather unusual, bestowed gift came from as neither of her parents possessed the ability.
It was in her early years living in the forest that Elena formed a companionship with Havok. She would see the hawk circling above on many occasions and eventually managed to summon the majestic creature. After some time, Havoks visions from above came to Elena below. As she later understood it, the bond was more of Havoks choosing rather than her own.
Her childhood was, for the most part, uneventful. Shed spend the majority of her time with her sister Sasha, the youngest of the Baryor siblings, Aladar, and her closest friend Luciano. The age of young adulthood would change the latter relationship forever. The gypsy elders charged Elena with carrying out the villages justices and Lucianos Father was found guilty of heinous crimes against their people. Bound by her sense of duty, Elena delivered his sentence by tracking and striking him down.
Luciano left the village then, swearing his own justice would be dealt to Elena one day. Not long after his departure, Elena decided to move on and her former duty would lead her to Odins service. As one of his handmaidens, she shed her born name at the time and simply became known as Valkyrie.
The years seemed a blur, time in the halls of Valhalla ticked away at a different pace than that of the mortal world and she was unsure how long it was before her sister joined Odins ranks. Though it pleased her greatly to see Sasha again, Vals wandering spirit called for change once more.
She found herself in a new land that some referred to as Dragon Court and there, reuniting with her Father she built a new life. Fascinated by this culture and after coming across an old scroll bearing a vaguely familiar mark, Val and her Father, as well as a new friend named Chance formed the clan Crimson Dragons. More time passed and many allegiances were made, thanks in part to a stouthearted Viking named Lexor. He would come to greatly aid the Crimson Dragons and join the clan not long after its inception. A spark was kindled between Val and Lex and despite a rather rocky courtship they eventually wed.
Another reunion came to pass as Aladar journeyed to the lands of Crimson and also joined the clan. It took some time, but the relationship between brother and sister was renewed and became stronger than it had ever been. It was this bond that Val relied most upon when she and Lex parted ways. The ruin of her marriage took its toll and Val needed some time away. The leadership was passed, to one of her most trusted friends and high councilors, Laodice.. who took on the role with great passion.
There was another bond that formed in this time, though it began only as a genuine friendship. A warrior from the ranks of Titan, the mightiest clan in Dragon Court, Takrari often visited CD. Dealing with his own personal demons at the time, he and Val began spending more time together.
Losing her way, her purpose, Val decided to leave the lands of Crimson and joined the clan Apocalypse briefly. The wanderer within finally settled on an obscure island and made her home there. Many joyous occasions wound up being held there and put the island that came to be known as Shangri-La on the map. Val was delighted to have been witness to these events; the weddings of her former clanmates Drezzden & Laodice and her dear brother & Apocalypses leader were among them. It was here her close friendship with the Lady Dragoness was made.
The relationship between Val & Tak kept growing and his allure that had first caught her attentions, began to catch her up completely. This closeness showed her who and what Takrari really was but despite the malevolence that surrounded him like a suit of armor, Val proclaimed her love for him and they were united. Destined and doomed from the beginning, the couple would part only to reunite soon after. It was through Tak that another bond was formed, between three women, wives of three out of four brothers. Val came to look upon Yasraena, wife of Eli, and Asteria, wife of Apostle, truly as her sisters.
The life with Takrari however, the betrayal & the lies weighed greatly on Val and yet that pull to him stayed strong within her. For his own reasons, whether in protection or pacification, Takrari eventually released her from the vows shed made.
Missing her friends and family, Val rejoined the clan Crimson Dragons and eventually reassumed leadership along with Aladar. After some time however, CD began to falter as many of its clansmen moved on to other adventures. Val returned to Shangri-La & again made her home there.
